Overview

Together, these two courses formed the compulsory Numerics module for the Bachelor’s programme in Mathematics. Students from other degree programmes were welcome.

- Implementation and use of numerical methods in Python
- Floating-point numbers and arithmetic
- Conditioning and stability
- Direct and iterative methods for linear systems
- Linear least-squares problems
- Eigenvalue problems
- Nonlinear systems of equations
- Interpolation and approximation of functions
- Numerical integration and differentiation
No prior experience in Python programming was required.
Programming exercises
Programming assignments formed an essential part of the tutorials. Submission and review were organised using the Institute’s Git server.
